Hi, I'm Lisa the dog trainer behind Nimbus Dogs

My journey started with Magik, a Dutch Shepherd who taught me just how tough (and rewarding) dog ownership can be. Through patience, play, and reward-based training, I learned that the best results come from kindness, connection, and most importantly, understanding.

Now, I help other owners navigate the same ups and downs, making training approachable, fun, and free from judgement. Whether you’ve got a high-energy working dog or a mischievous pup, my goal is simple: to help you build a strong, happy partnership with your dog.

For me, dog training should feel like play. It’s creative, flexible, and different for every dog-and-human partnership. I think of myself as a bit of a detective, working out what makes your dog tick. What I want to do is help you find those “aha!” moments when everything clicks, training mechanics that make sense to you, and a true feeling of connection with your dog.

I’m an accredited dog trainer with the Institute of Modern Dog Trainers, and I’ve studied with The School of Canine Science and Fenzi Dog Sports Academy. I’m always learning, whether it’s through workshops, courses, or the dogs in front of me, because the truth is, dogs never stop teaching us.

How I became a Dog Trainer

My training journey really began with Magik. She’s a brilliant dog, but also strong-willed, sensitive, and, in her teenage years, I swear she was part terminator, part velociraptor (I have the torn clothes to prove it!). At times, I doubted myself and wondered if we’d bitten off more than we could chew. It took patience, consistency, and a lot of creativity to work through our struggles. But the result was worth it: a bond built on trust, admiration, and joy and I quickly learned that training is never really “finished.”

That experience is why I created Nimbus Dogs. I know how frustrating it feels when your dog’s behaviour leaves you embarrassed, overwhelmed, or second-guessing yourself. I also know how confusing it can be to drown in conflicting advice online. My role isn’t to judge – it’s to guide, helping you find solutions that actually fit your dog and your life, while keeping the process fun for both of you.

At home, I share life with my partner Neal (our assistant trainer and media guy), Magik (the original nutcase), and Leia, a German Shepherd puppy we’re raising for Surrey & Sussex Police before she goes off to her big career.

Outside of work, I do Cani-X runs with Magik, enjoy scentwork and trick training, and  in a moment of questionable judgment, I signed up for the 2026 London Marathon, my first ever.

Nimbus Dogs exists to help you enjoy training, enjoy your dog, and feel proud of the team you’re building together

Cheeno (Keeshond)

Having completed puppy training classes with Lisa to then return for 1-2-1 training during adolescence was invaluable... we really don't know how we would have coped during this 'challenging' puppy phase! Lisa taught us how to handle Cheeno's energy bursts, improve his focus, recall and control his excitement when meeting other dogs. We have recommended Nimbus Dogs to all our dog parent friends and neighbours.

Roxy (Cane Corso)

Roxy has completed a number of training walks with Lisa, in and around Nonsuch Park. During the walks Lisa introduced a number of activities/techniques to encourage engagement/improve focus and provide additional stimulation in a real life setting. They have greatly helped Roxy’s socialisation and confidence building, I would definitely recommend.
